What is the philosophy of lookup2him?

The apostle Paul expressed the simple yet profound concept of “praying without ceasing” (I Thessalonians 5:17). This idea of constant communication with God was also popularized by Brother Lawrence, a seventeenth century monk, whose personal letters on this subject were compiled in the book The Practice of the Presence of God.

Although the idea of maintaining continual communication with God throughout the day may be an attractive concept, it is quite difficult to put into practice. Our busyness preoccupies our days, and God often takes a back seat to our activities. If left on our own, very few of us can successfully meet the challenge of connecting hourly with God for more than a few days. Since most people carry a cell phone, it provides a widespread means of communicating with those involved. The vision is that through the use of a text message we can deliver the Word of God to the forefront of each participant’s mind; this prompting provides a direct reminder to engage with God again and again throughout the day. By sustaining this for several weeks, participants’ lives will be altered in amazing ways and new patterns of communication with God will continue.

A Pencil in the Hand of God

The symbol of lookup2him is a pencil. When Mother Theresa was asked about her great work in India, she replied that she was merely “a pencil in the hand of God.”  Her response was humble and accurate; it reflects Christ’s words in John 15:5: “If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”  When we begin to find ourselves communicating with God throughout the day, we are, in essence, placing ourselves in the hand of the Master.

Expanding this metaphor, we can either stay on the desktop doing nothing significant with our lives or we can place ourselves in the hand of the Master.  When we are in His hand, He can then write a beautiful story with our lives or sketch a picture of untold value.  You see, we were designed to be His instruments in this world, but unless we place ourselves in His hand we can do nothing without Him.

lookup2him uses today’s technology to help those who want to be a pencil in the hand of God to succeed at staying connected with the Father, so that their lives might be a piece of art and a beautiful story created by the Master.  Experience for yourself the fullness of life that God desires for you—place yourself as a pencil in the hand of the Master.
